The SmartBoard!
All the children have been very currious about the SmartBoard in our classroom!
Well today we finally got to use it!
We learned how to drag our bee (with our name on it) and pull ourselves into the bee-hive.
This is how we will 'check-in' each day!
*and parents... don't worry, you will get a chance to 'play' with the SmartBoard tomorrow evening!
Library time!
Today the librarian, Mrs. Mullen, came down to our classroom and read us a story and we did a craft. Starting on the next E-day, we will be visiting the library and checking out books.

Weekly Reader
Today in your child's pouch is a Weekly Reader which we briefly read through together as a class. On the last page, there is an activity. This is voluntary. Your child may do this at home, if they like, and then bring it back in completed for a sticker. We do not keep track of who completes them and who does not. (last year we only had one student take part... so don't worry if you don't do it!) It is JUST FOR FUN!!!!
Morning Message
Everyday we have a new Morning Message!
And sometimes there will be a question, as part of the message, that
will ask us a question or to do something.
Today, we had to scribble our favorite color!
Second Step
Today we were introduced to a Social Studies Curriculum called "Second Step". Every 6 days we will do a Second Step Lesson. We will update the bog, so that you can talk to your son/daughter about what he/she learned during the discussion. This is a great way to help your child feel comfortable and confident with speaking in either a small group or in a large group setting. We will warm-up with an activity, we will have a story and discussion, and then we will transfer what we learned into real-life scenarios. There is always a goal of the lesson, a concept, and an objective!
Today's lesson:
Goal:
The goal of this unit is to increase children's ability to identify others' feelings, take others' perspectives, and respond empathically to others.
Empathy requires the identification of others' feelings through verbal and physical cues.
Concept:
Rules are important for group discussions
(Language concept: rule)
Empathy requires the identification of others' feelings through verbal and physical cues.
(Language concept: is, not, feelings, happy, sad, angry, pretend)
Objective:
Children will be able to:
-provide rules of conduct for group discussions
-name happy, sad, and angry when presented with physical and verbal cues of these emotions
We looked at two different pictures of children. One being very happy and the other very sad. We discussed how we could tell one was happy and the other sad. We discussed what makes us happy vs. sad. We We also discussed some rules to help us all learn better during Second Step lessons!

- "do you get tired" (to Mrs. S. for all the 'stuff' she does!)
- "do you check to make sure everything is ok?"
- "if you are in trouble, you go to the principal's office"
- "if you are hurt, like a broken leg, you go to the principal"
- "if you hit or punch you have to go to the office"
